Former President of the Election Commission, Charlotte Osei, urged that the country’s laws be applied equally.
She believes democracy is only effective when the rules are not applied selectively to favor a certain class of people when they break due process.
“The rule of law must apply; we have to treat everyone the same, ”she said following controversies surrounding the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 vaccine purchase campaign.
Ms. Osei was dismissed from her post by the Akufo-Addo administration for alleged violations of public procurement.
Many have claimed that the said violation is similar to the offenses committed by the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu.
The minister is currently receiving criticism over a botched contract to obtain certain Sputnik V vaccines.
Mr Agyeman-Manu admitted before an ad hoc committee that he had bypassed parliamentary approval in his quest for the jabs to be supplied to Ghana.
He later denied having any knowledge of any payments advanced to Dubai-based intermediary, Sheikh Dalmook Al Maktoum, in this regard.
Some of the public, minority and anti-corruption organizations are demanding that the president sack the minister and everyone involved in the transaction.

The August 10 post sent social media into a frenzy about its timing and a possible connection to the unfolding of the Sputnik V vaccine saga.
Explain the reason for the tweet on Joy FM, on Wednesday, the former President of the EC said: “As soon as you start to make distinctions in the way you treat citizens … what happens is that the institutions start to lose the trust of the citizens”.
She told host Winston Amoah: “If the law is broken by Winston and we punish him. When Kojo does the same, we have to sanction Kojo.
“Otherwise, we create a system of inequality and injustice,” she explained.
