Mr. Salifu Issifu Kanton, the executive director of the Alliance for Community Development (CDA), said that the delay in the appointment of the heads of the metropolitan, municipal and district executive (MMDCE) negatively affects the activities of the various assemblies.
He said that the activities and development projects of the assemblies in the communities have stalled due to the lack of properly constituted assemblies.
Mr Kanton, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa, noted that Ghana’s local governance system places MMDCEs at the center of all assembly activities.
“It’s a bit sad that it takes enough time for the local government structures to be properly constituted,” he said.
He explained that currently, the assemblies were practically slowed down due to the unavailability of resources to work, coupled with the non-release of the Common Fund of District Assemblies (DACF) because there was no MMDCE. properly constituted.
“Right now, in the Upper West region, most of the assemblies are supposed to work out their medium-term development plans. I am aware that some of them do not engage communities to find out their priority needs to be incorporated into plans.
Mr. Kanton therefore appealed to the President to designate the MMDCEs as soon as possible to allow the various assemblies to function.
