Body armor and helmet were my introductory gear to life in Afghanistan – Charlotte Osei

The former President of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madame Charlotte Osei, revealed that wearing a bulletproof vest and a helmet was her introductory equipment to life in Afghanistan during a mission of the United Nations.

“When I arrived in Kabul, the UN driver and the UN armored vehicle meet you. When they take you to your car, the first thing they give you is your bulletproof vest and helmet… so that’s your introduction to life with your laptop. And you’re still in an armored vehicle, ”she revealed to Accra-based Joy Fm and monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

On how she felt wearing this protective clothing, she said: “I’m quite adventurous so I was amused, but at some point you will be scared”

She did, however, disclose that she received safe training from the United Nations (UN) before traveling to Afghanistan for this international posting.

“Some of the training they give you… there’s something about safety training that really tells you what to do when you’re in a crisis. They teach you a lot about emergency response, how to first aid yourself and others. If there is an injury, how to tie it, what to do and how to use your kits. They also teach you what to do when you are in a car accident, ”she revealed.

Recall that in 2019 the United Nations (UN) appointed Ms. Charlotte Osei to international advisers to support the work of the electoral management bodies of Afghanistan.

This was before the presidential elections of South Asian countries in September 2019.

The former chairman of the Ghana Election Commission (EC) joined a team of other UN-appointed electoral experts from around the world to provide technical support, capacity building and advice on electoral best practices to the Election Complaints Commission and the Independent Election Commission in Afghanistan.
