Batman fans were overjoyed when Michael Keaton confirmed his return as the older Bruce Wayne in Andrés Muschietti and Ezra Miller Flash, and now the actor has explained why he decided to return to the role after almost 30 years.
Talk to Hollywood journalist, the 69-year-old actor revealed he was impressed with Christina Hodson’s script and Muschietti’s vision. Keaton was also intrigued by the mere idea of his return as Batman. “Frankly, deep in my head I always thought, ‘I bet I could go back and nail that bastard,'” he explained of the role of Batman, which he walked away from. in the mid-90s because he wasn’t a fan of Batman forever scenario. “And so I thought, ‘Well, now that they’re asking me, let me see if I can do it.'”
Keaton added that he needed more explanation to understand the angle of parallel universes in the next movie: “I must have read it more than three times to be like ‘Wait, how does that work?’” He continued, “They must have explained this to me a few times. By the way, I’m not pushy, I hope, about it. I’m not saying it like, ‘I’m too groovy.’ I’m stupid. There are a lot of things I don’t know. And so, I don’t know, I just figured out, but it was different.
“What’s really interesting is how much I have [Batman] when I went back and did it. I understand that on a whole new level now, ”he said. “I totally respect him. I respect what people are trying to do. I never looked at him like, ‘Oh that’s just a silly thing.’ It wasn’t silly when I made Batman. But it has become a giant thing, culturally. It is emblematic. So I have more respect for that because what do I know about it? It’s a big deal in the world for people. You have to honor it and be respectful of it. Even I say ‘Jesus, this is huge.’ ”
Flash is scheduled to hit theaters on November 4, 2022.
