Aisha Ake was only 13 when her parents married her to a man they said they trusted.

Ake said it was the start of her troubles as the man who was supposed to feed her turned on her.
He forbade her to visit her parents or other relatives.
She went six years without ever seeing her family after the wedding. Ake was not allowed to go anywhere without her husband’s permission.

“Everything I did would be verified by him first. He would ask his mother to follow me wherever I went, even to the market,” she recalls.

She said YEN.com.gh that soon her marriage became unbearable, and her husband began to beat her at the slightest provocation. The man pulled her hair and dragged her down the stairs while the children and neighbors watched.
He married a second wife
The situation worsened when her husband married a second wife. Ake said it felt like another blow to the already existing wound in his marriage.
Ake once applied for permission to attend a parent’s wedding in 2019. He was granted this.
She, however, had no idea that a plot was brewing.
“I left my children with my mother-in-law in Nairobi, but at the wedding I got a message that the father had taken them to Moyale. I couldn’t understand why he had done this,” said Ake.
Her husband then locked her out of her house and Ake found herself with nowhere to go. She then started a court battle to at least have shared custody of the children, but that also ran into a problem.

Duped to take the case out of court
The man tricked her into withdrawing the case, saying he would bring the kids back to her, but soon after she did he denied ever making any promises.
Ake is now at the end of the road and says his only wish is to spend the holidays with his two children, aged 11 and 12.
“I go to work but when I get home I cry. I miss being called ‘mum’. I saw them two weeks ago, but not for long. I love them so much,” a she declared. YEN.com.gh during a telephone interview.
The 26-year-old is now calling for help to find her children or at least obtain shared custody. Her story first aired on Shared Moments with Justus.
She said her two children love to feast on pizza, chicken and fries.
