Grows up. 19 (UPI) – Professional wrestling legend Sting competed on TNT for the first time in 20 years and bitter rivals Chris Jericho and MJF faced off in the AEW main event Dynamite.
Sting and his protégé Darby Allin faced new 2.0 AEW tag team Jeff Park and Matt Lee on Wednesday in a Texas Tornado Match.
Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston were attacked from behind by 2.0 and their friend Daniel Garcia to start Dynamite. Moxley and Kingston were heading to the ring to speak to the fans when the ambush took place.
The new team then called Sting and Darby Allin, wanting to start their match right away. A Texas Tornado match has no rules and tags are not required.
Allin started the match by assaulting 2.0 and Garcia with his skateboard. Sting and Allin then delivered a double Stinger Splash. The match quickly turned into a brawl that touched the audience live and behind the scenes. Kingston was able to recover and also joined the fray.
Later, Sting was able to fight 2.0 on his own and immediately rose to his feet after being Powerbombed across a table. The Icon performed a double Scorpion Death Drop and won the match with his submission hold, the Scorpion Death Lock.
Jericho, who had to overcome four different challenges to face MJF again, finally had his chance on Dynamite but could not use his knockout the Judas effect. MJF was allowed to set the conditions and even banned Jericho’s theme song “Judas”. If Jericho used the Judas effect, he would be immediately disqualified.
Houston Fertitta Center fans, however, have always performed “Judas” for Jericho because it came out without music.
The match quickly spread to the outside area of the ring with MJF grabbing a production camera to film fans live and point a middle finger at them. Jericho stopped his rival by hitting the camera.
MJF, back in the ring, focused on attacking Jericho’s injured left arm and even used the submissive movement of his rival, The Lion Tamer. Jericho reached for the ropes and grabbed his baseball bat while MJF started putting on his Dynamite diamond ring.
Referee Aubrey Edwards caught MJF setting the ring and got rid of him, allowing Jericho to use his baseball bat. The Champion then prepares to play The Judas Effect, but stops before the attack.
MJF took advantage of Jericho’s reluctance and produced his own Judas Effect. MJF then had Jericho taped by applying his submissive grip of the Salt of the Earth to his left arm, causing Jericho to tap.
Also on Dynamite, AEW World Tag Team Champions Nick and Matt Jackson of The Young Bucks defended their titles against Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus of Jurassic Express. The Young Bucks were joined at ringside by several members of their group The Elite while Jurassic Express was joined by their partner Marko Stunt.
The highly competitive and high-flying match was interrupted by AEW World Champion and Elite member Kenny Omega who attacked Stunt with a steel chair. Omega then passed the steel chair to Matt Jackson before he was attacked by rival Christian Cage.
Cage managed to chase Omega as Jungle Boy himself used the steel chair to land a Brain Buster on Matt Jackson, but it wasn’t enough as Nick Jackson broke the pin.
The Young Bucks then performed the BTE Trigger on Jungle Boy to win the game. Omega brought Cage back to the ring by Elite member Luke Gallows. The Elite then assaulted Cage with Omega ending the attack with the One-Winged Angel.
Other moments of Dynamite included Sammy Guevara proposing to his girlfriend Pam and beating up Shawn Spears; Paul Wight announcing he will face QT Marshall at the All Out pay-per-view event; announcer Tony Schiavone announcing that the Young Bucks will next defend their titles inside a steel cage at All Out; and Thunder Rosa defeating Penelope Ford.
AEW Carnage will take place Friday at 10 p.m. EDT on TNT. AEW and Allin have heavily hinted that CM Punk will be making an appearance at the show, which takes place in his hometown of Chicago.
