The University of Ghana will start its end-of-semester exams from Wednesday August 25, following the suspension of the strike by the Association of University Teachers of Ghana (UTAG).
The university was due to start its exams on August 7, but the protest action declared by the professors forced the school administration to suspend exams indefinitely.
The Ghana University Teachers Association declared a strike on August 2, demanding improved conditions of service.
Speakers wanted the government to implement a single backbone salary deal in 2012 that set the salary for entry-level speakers at $ 2,084.
UTAG has since suspended the action for a mandatory period of one month in order to continue negotiations with the government.
But in a circular sent to the academic community by email, the director of the Academic Affairs Directorate of the University of Ghana, Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah, noted that “Following UTAG’s notice of the suspension withdrawal from teaching and related activities by members, it was decided by the Works and Management Committee that the main tests of the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic year (levels 100 and 400) would resume at from Wednesday 25 August 2021.
The circular also attached the timetable for the upcoming review.
