‘The Walking Dead’ kicks off final comic story tonight, missing all main characters

The Walking Dead season 11 has finally arrived after a long pandemic delay. The oversized ‘final’ season of the show will end the main show, but we already know that The Walking Dead as a brand will live on through spin-offs, movies, and other projects.

It does, however, mark the beginning of the end for its adaptation of the actual source material, the Robert Kirkman story. Season 11 will focus on the Commonwealth storyline that wraps up the comics. The problem? The Walking Dead has to do it without any of the main actors in the comedic version.

The main thrust of Commonwealth history in the comics is that Rick Grimes tries to balance himself on a tightrope that involved interacting with the leader of the community in the classroom, as two friends pull him in directions opposites. Michonne, previously a lawyer in her former life, finds herself treated fabulously and can also find her brother. Dwight, on the other hand, is not a fan of this social organization that dates back to the “old way” of class oppression.

In the comic (comic spoilers, that may not happen in the series), Rick is forced to kill his longtime friend Dwight when it looks like he’s going to assassinate the Head of the Commonwealth. Later, when Rick himself is seen as a threat, he is killed by the leader’s son and the comic ends shortly thereafter with a flash-forward starring an adult Carl Grimes.

Almost none of this predicts what will happen with the series, as all of these characters are either dead or gone. Rick has been kidnapped by the non-comedy group CRM and is awaiting his first feature films about his adventures. Michonne left the show to pick him up. Dwight is on Fear the Walking Dead now and it’s quite clear that he won’t be returning for this season. Carl Grimes is dead, perhaps the dumbest decision the show has ever made.

What shall we do now?

We have 1: 1 clear replacement. Yumiko took on the role of Michonne. She is an Oxford trained lawyer and her brother is believed to live in the Commonwealth. But as for everyone? We have no idea.

It stands to reason that Daryl could be forced to be the new Rick, although that’s a little hard to see given that Daryl would rather live in the woods than interact with a politician in a giant urban community. Rather, it looks like he would fit in better as Dwight in this situation, minus the fact that Dwight was killed, given that we know Daryl and Carol will survive this season so they can have their own spinoff show. . I could also see Ezekiel cast the role of Dwight, given that he’s still alive when he’s not meant to be, and a “lower class” citizen as a former zookeeper. I could also see Magna and Yumiko training, divided by the new class rules (I’m not sure where Magna is, she isn’t in the first one at all).

So could Carol be the new Rick? Could Maggie? I could see one of them training with Daryl as Dwight. As for Carl, it will probably be Judith Grimes or Lydia, but my money would be on Judith. That said, I somehow doubt The Walking Dead will end as conclusively as the comics do with this flash-forward decades later with an elderly Carl, given that he wants to continue the universe long after the end. of the main show. We will see.

Anyway, I’ve seen the first two episodes of the season and they’re pretty good. But I like the non-community stuff more than the Commonwealth stuff, and we’ll see how that evolves over time.
