Religious leaders were urged to use the pulpit and other platforms at their disposal to spread the message of peace and unity to help maintain the cordial atmosphere that Ghana continues to enjoy.
They were also asked to continue to work in partnership with the government in its development efforts, with the assurance of an environment conducive to the realization of these fruitful partnerships.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia made the call as a special guest during a service to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ordained service of Rev. Kwadwo Owusu-Sarpong in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at the official branch from the city of Adabraka, on Sunday August 22. 2021.
“I wish to urge the leaders of all religious organizations to use the pulpit to spread the message of peace and unity in order to underscore the need to maintain the unity and peace that the nation continues to enjoy despite our challenges.
“Christians need to raise a sense of responsibility in the country and help fight pockets of corruption and impunity. Sincere Christians can do this by strengthening democracy and speaking out.
“May we continue to live in peace and harmony as one people with a common destiny. Certainly, we have no other nation but Ghana, so let’s protect it, ”he stressed.
Hailing the contribution of faith-based organizations to nation building, Vice President Bawumia praised the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the first existing Christian church in Ghana.
“Over the years, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has partnered with successive governments to advance the development agenda. The government recognizes the immense contribution of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to the growth of the nation, especially in the provision of basic, secondary and higher education, health care, agricultural services and other interventions. social networks across the country.
“According to Ghana Health Services, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is currently the third largest provider of health services in Ghana. We all take our hat off to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for all of these immense social service interventions in support of national development.
“Without a doubt, government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of developing our beloved nation. May I take this opportunity to encourage the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the entire Christian community and of course other faith-based organizations, to continue to collaborate with the government in its development efforts. Rest assured that we will continue to provide an environment conducive to the realization of such a fruitful partnership. “
Speaking on the theme of the event, “Celebrating God’s Favor,” Dr Bawumia congratulated Rev. Kwadwo Owusu-Sarpong on his three decades of service to the Church and to Ghana, indicating that despite his difficult start , “God had a plan for you and his favor has indeed been reflected in your life.
“I beg you to make your voice heard in the national discourse; the nation needs independent voices like yours. Rest assured that you are on God’s side and that He will guard you and watch over you.
“As you serve Mother Ghana and the Church, make a commitment to uphold the principles of the Church and the constitution of Ghana. As 1 Timothy 4:15 urges, “Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all can see your progress.” “
