Mantse Aryeequaye, curator of Chale Wote is in custody
• The police gave a reason for the arrest of the organizers of Chale Wote

• Three people were collected on Saturday for the organization of the indoor event
The Greater Accra Regional Police Command said the organizers of “Chale Wote” were arrested for flouting the law on public order.
Commissioner of the popular street art festival, Mantse Aryeequaye; and two organizers, Nii Aryee and Ampem Darko (Ananse) on Saturday August 21, apprehended by police at Fort Ussher in Jamestown as the event unfolded inside. They were then sent to the Accra Regional Police Command.
Barely a day after the arrest, police, according to citinewsroom.com, said the trio were arrested for defying public order law.
“The command saw the announcement for this festival and invited the organizers to a meeting, and I was told that the organizers never showed up. So yesterday [Saturday], we retained the intelligence according to which the organizers were already preparing the venue for the event. The police then intervened to arrest the three people, ”said Juliana Obeng, public relations manager of the Accra Regional Police Command, DSP.
The three people have not yet been released.
Earlier, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) announced that the 2021 edition of Chale Wote will be a virtual event due to the upsurge in COVID-19 cases.
A statement from the outfit said the decision was “in line with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s 26th update on COVID-19 protocols for people to avoid large gatherings to prevent the pandemic from spreading.”
He continued, “To this end, WADA management and festival organizers have agreed that all aligned programs will be broadcast on virtual platforms such as social media and other online channels to enable all fans of the festival to follow the activities.
Also, unlike previous events and the large crowd associated with them, there will be no outdoor activities requiring in-person participation at this year’s event which begins August 13 – 22. August 2021. “
What President Akufo-Addo said in his 26th COVID-19 speech on the events:
On July 25, 2021, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo briefed Ghanaians on the country’s enhanced response to the pandemic. Among other things, the president announced a review of security protocols for public gatherings, including funerals and wedding receptions.
He said:
“The COVID-19 task force, which I chair, recommended reviewing the protocols that have been put in place for social and public gatherings, especially weddings and funerals, across the country. I have, in previous updates, stressed the need for strict adherence to security protocols at all of these gatherings.
the wearing of a mask remains compulsory, and people must respect reinforced hygiene protocols;
all these events must be organized in open air spaces;
the duration of such events is limited to two (2) hours;
there must be compliance with the social distancing rule of one (1) meter; and
handshakes must be avoided. “
