Wolves are interested in Marseille central defender Duje Caleta-Car, but face a tough task to convince the player to join them.
The Croatia international wants to continue playing in European competition if he has to leave the French club this summer.
Marseille must sell players to offset the cost of the Covid-19 pandemic and are said to be willing to sell in the order of £ 17million (€ 20million).
Wolves want to sign another center-back before the deadline and could step up their pursuit of Caleta-Car if they receive further encouragement from the player or Marseille.
The 24-year-old was also on West Ham’s target list – but they are close to making a deal to sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea – the main target for David Moyes.

Caleta-Car joined Marseille from Red Bull Salzburg three years ago and has since established themselves on Croatia’s side, starting their last-16 loss to Spain at Euro 2020.
He has scored three goals and made two assists in nearly 100 appearances for Marseille, where he still has two years left on his contract.
Wolves, Watford interested in Yokuslu
Wolves and Watford are interested in signing Okay Yokuslu from Celta Vigo.
A source said Sky Sports News as Watford is preparing to make an offer for the Turkey international.
Yokuslu is reportedly valued by the Spanish club at around £ 5million and is keen to return to the Premier League.
He impressed on loan at West Brom last season despite their relegation, making 16 appearances in all competitions.
