Henry Quartey, regional minister for Greater Accra, reiterated Thursday that his “Let’s do Accra agenda was not only focused on sanitation in the capital, but also on health, education, security and indiscipline.

He said: “Let us make the Greater Accra work program focus on five important pillars of safety, sanitation, health, education and indiscipline, which are cross-cutting.

Mr Quartey, who launched the appeal by addressing the annual conference of the presiding members of Greater Accra in Accra on the theme: “Making Greater Accra Work, the Role of Local Assemblies (Let Your Action Count) said that the order of the day was born of indiscipline and contempt for order in the capital.

The program brought together all the presiding members of the region, experts in local governance and development partners.

It would also serve as a training ground for members to strategize for the growth and development of the region.

Sanitation and waste management would also be an integral part of their conference.

Mr. Quartey called on the presiding members to influence their assemblies to implement educational programs with stakeholders to achieve the vision of the agenda.

He said the next line of action would be to maintain high standards in erecting billboards on major streets in the area.

The regional minister said that the Regional Coordinating Council is currently running training programs to bring common sense into good advertising standards.

He announced that private sector stakeholders have supported the program and called for more support to make it happen.

Mr. Joseph Korto, regional dean of the presiding members, called on his colleagues to focus on education as it is the foundation of education.

He said: “Honorable Members, since education is the only weapon that society can use to level up, I would like to suggest that we step up education in our various districts to combat the disease.”

He congratulated Mr. Henry Quartey, regional minister of Greater Accra for his innovations to keep the city clean and called on his colleagues to offer the minister maximum support to achieve health and sanitation goals.

“The operation of the Regional Minister of facade cleaning and the demolition of unauthorized works on the waterways, among others, cannot have a positive impact without the support of the Assemblies of the region.

He described the regional minister as a courageous leader with a high level of intelligence who needed their support for the Greater Accra region to function.

Mr Korto, who is also the national dean of presiding members, called on the executive and legislative branches of government to take action to improve conditions of service for members across the country.

Dr Nana Ato Arthur, head of department in the office of the local government department called on the presiding members to be innovative in the development of their assemblies.

He called on assemblies to avoid awarding contracts that could not receive adequate funding as this could lead to the construction of so many unfinished buildings.

Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah, representative of Greater Accra on the Council of State urged the assemblies to orient their conversations towards the election of the MMDCE, a proposal which has been dragging on for some time now.
