Aug. 27 (Reuters) – Toyota Motor (7203.T) announced on Friday that it had suspended all autonomous e-Palette transport pods at the Tokyo Paralympic Games Village, a day after one of the vehicles collided and injured a visually impaired pedestrian.
The e-Palette, a fully autonomous battery-electric vehicle, has been specially adapted for use during the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, with large doors and power ramps to allow groups of athletes to board quickly.
The company said it was cooperating with a local police investigation to determine the cause of the crash, adding that it would also conduct its own investigation.
Toyota said it will continue to coordinate closely with the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee to avoid any further incidents.
Paralympic Games organizers were not immediately available for comment.
