Bathinda, August 28

The damaging effects of HIV-infected blood given to children and a woman admitted to Bathinda Civil Hospital last year began to show as the woman’s husband and 3-year-old daughter were also tested HIV-positive.

However, her 5-year-old son’s report came out negative. Sonu Maheshwari, president of the NGO Naujawan Welfare Society, pledged justice to the family. The victim claimed that reckless civilian hospital staff had ruined his family. Her husband had stopped going to work after being diagnosed with the disease, which also made their financial situation worse. She should now depend on medication for the rest of her life. The family called for help and strict action against those who donated infected blood.

Notably, a woman was admitted to the hospital’s medical department with blood loss in May of last year. The woman received two units of blood. The next day, more blood was needed.

A regular donor gave his blood through an NGO at the hospital but the authorities, without checking the blood, administered it to the patient. The donor was later found to be HIV positive. After investigation, a complaint was filed against three employees of the blood bank of the civilian hospital. – TNS
