Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F Sandberg responds to a tweet claiming filming for the sequel is over, letting fans know that’s not true.

Shazam! The fury of the gods director David F. Sandberg responded to a tweet claiming the sequel has officially finished filming. The first one Shazam! movie was released in 2019 and told the story of Billy Batson who, in search of his mother, is chosen by a former wizard. Billy has the power to transform himself from a teenager into a superhuman with just one sentence – “Shazam!”

After a series of delays due to COVID-19, the sequel began filming in May. While plot details are largely unknown at this point, the majority of the original cast are expected to return, with Asher Angel and Zachary Levi reprising their roles as Billy / Shazam. The sequel also made some exciting new additions to the cast, with Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu set to make their DCEU debuts as Hespera and Kalypso, the daughters of Atlas who will act as the antagonists of the following. Alongside them is newcomer Rachel Zegler, who is said to also play a daughter of Atlas, although her role is currently not disclosed.

After recently posting on Instagram this shoot for Shazam! The fury of the gods was almost finished, Sandberg has now used Twitter to give fans a new update. In response to a tweet that the sequel was officially over, the director posted a photo of himself still on set. Sandberg clarified that although a handful of actors were already packed, filming was still underway but they were “close to being done.Check out David’s tweet below:

A number of the film’s stars have taken to social media to announce that they have completed filming on the sequel, including Angel and Zegler. It’s likely that more of the cast will officially end over the next few days as the film prepares to go into post-production. With the sequel currently slated for release in 2023, DC fans have a number of more upcoming titles to look forward to from here. Shazam! The fury of the gods’ expected output. The Batman, Black adam, The flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are all currently scheduled for 2022 releases.

The current film release landscape faces a lot of uncertainties, with some of this year’s most anticipated films at risk of being postponed until 2022. As for Shazam! The fury of the gods, more details are likely to be released by DC in the near future. Fans are waiting for more information on what to expect from the sequel’s plot, as well as confirmation of Zegler’s mysterious character. Moviegoers can only hope that the fallout from these alleged delays does not create a domino effect that will continue into 2023 and beyond since. Shazam!
