Following the debut of Halsey’s new album on August 27, If I can’t have love I want power, fans are enjoying his latest music – and Taylor Swift is one of them. The 11 Grammy winner showed her appreciation for her fellow artist in an Instagram story on Sunday, August 29, in which she encouraged her followers to support the album. Swift explained that she was “blown away” by it and predicted that Halsey’s artistry and risk-taking would influence the work of other musicians.

“I am blown away by @iamhalsey’s artistry and commitment to taking risks. Giving us all a brave new era to dive into and explore together, ”Swift wrote. “If I can’t have love I want the power cut now, please stream and buy the album !!”

Halsey (who uses both her and them pronouns) described her fourth album as centered on “the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth.” (The new mom welcomed her first child on July 19.) Her album cover sparked a buzz in early July when she revealed a cover image exposing a breast. “This image is my way of reclaiming my autonomy and establishing my pride and strength as a life force for my human being,” Halsey explained at the time. They further noted that “the idea that I as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts which can coexist peacefully and powerfully.”

At the time of their If I can’t have love I want power the cover image reveals, Halsey has met a surge of celebrity support. Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards called it “BREATHTAKING”, while actor January Jones chose to describe it as “Gorgeous”. Demi Lovato has commented more than once, responding with many show-off emojis and also “It’s an iconic af.” Meanwhile, Rihanna simply wrote “Wow”.

With the album now out, Halsey was understandably delighted to get more positive responses, including that from Swift. Repost it Always the singer’s story via her own Instagram account, she wrote, “Thank you T !!!! I love you uuuu. The exclamation marks and extra letters weren’t enough to say it all, so they added a pleading face emoji Oh.

Support goes both ways between musicians. When Swift spoke out against Scooter Braun and former Big Machine Records owner Scott Borchetta in 2019 for not allegedly giving her the option to purchase the rights to her first six albums, Halsey backed her up. Calling Swift a “big reason” she writes her own music, she tweeted a statement criticizing that “no matter how powerful or successful a woman is in this life, you are always likely to see someone come and make you feel helpless out of spite”.

“She deserves to own this painstaking work from her heart,” Halsey also wrote. “She exceeded all expectations of what any artist is even capable of. She catapulted her fame into the Milky Way. … I am standing with her.

The two singers clearly have love for each other, and that creates some pretty awesome power.
