Former PNC flag-bearer Asaki Samson Awingobit plunged into internal feuds with the opposition National People’s Convention (PNC), berating the National Executive Committee for its decision to suspend the party’s secretary general without ” use of appropriate procedures ”.
The National People’s Convention (PNC) has suspended its secretary general indefinitely for serious misconduct, incompetence and insubordination.
The decision to suspend Ms. Janet Nabla was taken on Saturday August 28, 2021 during a National Executive Committee meeting held at GNAT Hallin Accra.
A statement signed by National President Moses Dani Baah said that “the national executive committee, in considering and adopting a report submitted by the party discipline committee, unanimously decided to suspend the general secretary for rid the party of indiscipline to save itself from its lingering vile accusations and disrespect for the party leadership which has undoubtedly cast a bad light on the PNC.
“A petition was filed with the party discipline committee calling for the secretary general to be accountable for her conduct and management, but sadly she snubbed the committee by refusing to appear before it despite several attempts by the committee to summon. Following this, the Committee presented its report to the NEC for consideration which recommended an indefinite suspension of Madame Janet Nabla and it was unanimously approved by the NEC in accordance with Article 57 (7) of the party constitution. », Adds the press release.
Although it is a painful decision, the PNC’s NEC says it deems it appropriate to adopt the decision to protect the party’s image amid all the negative press surrounding the party emanating from the conduct of the party. the former Secretary General, Ms. Janet Nabla.
But Asaki Samson maintains that the suspended general secretary is being treated unfairly by the party, urging her not to neglect every stone to seek redress.
He even stressed the need for the besieged secretary general to consider civil action against the leadership to overturn the authoritarian decision.
“I firmly believe that the Secretary General has not been treated fairly. I therefore encourage him to seek redress from the appropriate bodies, in particular by initiating legal action if the decision is not overturned as a matter of urgency. “

STATEMENT BY ASAKI SAMSON AWINGOBIT, A FORMER PNC FLAG BEARER HOPING ON CURRENT ISSUES WITHIN THE PNC
It is with a heavy heart that I wish to express my concerns about the unpleasant internal feuds that plagued the National People’s Convention (PNC) during the period – an issue that has consistently undermined the party’s progress.
I am not keen on discussing party issues in public and it has never been my style. Nonetheless, I am compelled to take this approach in the wake of the apparent collapse of party structures, fueled by disunity and division within the party hierarchy.
Although I have remained silent on all issues that have arisen within the party after the 2020 elections in the interest of protecting the party’s image, the latest decision of the National Executive Committee to suspend the party’s general secretary without appeal to proper procedures cannot be overlooked as it has far-reaching implications for the integrity of the party.
As much as I recognize that NEC has the mandate to make decisions that would serve the best interests of the party, the PNC is a party that is governed by laws and therefore any decision must be in tandem with the party constitution.
According to the PNC constitution, an NEC meeting to suspend a party leader requires the presence of more than half of the party’s regional presidents; not to do so implies that a quorom would not be formed by the precepts of the constitution.
I am reliably informed that only seven regional presidents attended the August 28 meeting in Accra. It is therefore surprising that NEC was able to make such a decision, which constitutes a flagrant violation of the constitution.
Looking back, I urge the party hierarchy to do the right thing in overturning the NEC decision as it is unconstitutional and does not instill a better image for the party.

As a concerned party member and former hopeful flag bearer, I am saddened that nearly nine months after the election, there was no concerted effort on the part of the party to do a thorough analysis. of what led to our appalling performance in the 2020 elections and revisiting its strategy before 2024.
I also fear that the PNC leadership has gone into hibernation so that there has not been a single collective decision by the party on a matter of national interest since the 2020 elections. This is unacceptable. If the PNC can win back the hearts of the good Ghanaian people, then we must be serious in all our dealings and not be seen as the second fiddle of a political party.
The party at this stage needs urgent reorganization and an early congress would surely be of great benefit to the party.
