Trade Minister and ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Alan Kyerematen condemned the ensuing act of violence between party supporters in Suhum on Saturday.

According to Kyeremanten, party ideals have no room for violence, so the unfortunate incident which left some people injured should not be supported by Ghanaians, especially the NPP base.

“The incidence of the reported violent clashes between supporters of our great party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Suhum constituency of the Eastern region on Saturday August 28, 2021, is most regrettable and must be condemned by all well-meaning patriots. “, Said the minister in a press release.

Reports to JoyNews on Sunday revealed that the party’s communications officer in Lower West Akyem, Bernard Kwesi Amoani, was allegedly slashed in the forehead with a cutlass by the driver of the deputy for Suhum during a free fight.

The chaos, which occurred at the funeral site of a certain Opare, saw supporters of Member of Parliament Kwadwo Asante and Presidential staff member Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, exchange blows.

But although this was the report, Mr Kyeremateng says there are people who distort the facts and blame himself and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, such actions only seek to tarnish their image.

He said: “The rumors currently circulating on social media that the clash has taken place between my supporters and those of our vice president are not only completely false, but malicious and were designed to ridicule the vice president. and myself, ”he said. adding that “I unreservedly condemn this barbaric act of certain members of our great party”.

For him, such misunderstandings should never escalate to the point of endangering lives. He reiterated that barbarism of any kind has no place in the New Patriotic Party because violence is not part of the party’s ideals.

“I firmly believe that any disagreement, whether it is linked to a competition of position or to differences of ideas and opinions, should not be manifested by such violence in a party like ours. The ideals of our party and our tradition call for a peaceful and harmonious coexistence and our motto, (Development in freedom), has no room for violence.

Mr. Kyerematen therefore called on the Suhum constituency executives, the eastern regional executives as well as the party’s national executives to take immediate steps to “resolve the differences between the two warring parties in order to restore peace and discipline in the party “.

Meanwhile, the Suhum District Police Command has opened an investigation into the case.
