Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said the opposition NDC has devised a deliberate plan to thwart government programs and policies with the sole aim of disrupting the development agenda.
He said the NDC would only be successful if the government did not talk about its successes.
“The NDC propaganda machine will be oiled by its representation in Parliament. Any conceivable government intervention or intention will be seriously attacked. They will question the government’s promises, they will question the achievements of the government and they will question the intention of the government, they will unleash these attacks both on the floor of Parliament and outside the floor.
“There is no better group to respond to these attacks in order to set the record straight and match the ‘chalewote’ than the parliamentary majority caucus. So we have to tell our story in terms of what we have been able to accomplish, ”he said.
Addressing a workshop for the NPP majority caucus and executive members in the eastern regional town of Mpraeso, Dr Bawumia urged strengthening ties between parliament and the executive to help deliver on promises made to Ghanaians and gain more confidence to continue to rule the nation.
According to him, before the NPP took office in 2017, there had been difficulties in the country, adding that the NPP government had reduced the level of difficulties.
“We need to let Ghanaians know how we were able to reduce, not eliminate completely, but reduce the hardship. The difficulties were there before we came to government in 2017 and we have done so much and this is an area we should not shy away from. In the area of social interventions, our government has been simply wonderful, ”he said.
Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin said that despite numerous interventions by the Akufo-Addo government, the majority of Ghanaians continue to live in pain and misery.
He advised the NPP party to take some of these popular concerns seriously.
“While these concerns are sometimes unfounded, distasteful and unfair, sometimes they are the plain truth. By that I mean these are realities faced by many who have elected us to power to serve them and our country. Therefore, I urge all of us to consider these comments, whether good or bad, as reminders. Although we have done a lot at different levels to transform our country and the economy for the better, there is still a lot of work to be done, ”he said.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin reiterated the need for Party communicators to share with the people the many achievements of the government.
