The Democratic National Congress has accused President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of making corruption an attractive business in Ghana.
Speaking at a press conference, party communications officer Sammy Gyamfi said that despite declaring himself incorruptible, the president and his deputy have been the “biggest” promoters and facilitators of corruption. in the country.
In support of his argument, Mr. Gyamfi named the PDS scandal, the Agyapa agreement, the missing excavators, the scandal of contacts for sale in which the former head of the Public Procurement Authority, Mr. AB Adjei was taken, the Ameri-Novation agreement, among others, as some of the corrupt. under the Akufo-Addo administration.
“What is clear is that all of these instances of corruption and theft have cemented the reputation of President Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia as the most corrupt President and Vice President in Ghanaian history.
“Ghanaians are aware that President Akufo-Addo broke his 2016 campaign pledge to protect public funds once elected. In fact, we all know how President Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia, who once claimed to be incorruptible, made corruption the most attractive business in Ghana today, ”he said on Monday.
His comment comes after the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) berated former President John Dramani Mahama for his corruption charges against the Akufo-Addo administration.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Thursday, General Secretary John Boadu said Mahama had no moral justification for talking about corruption.
“Former President Mahama claims without evidence that the NPP stole Ghana’s money and can ensure accountability through elections. Extremely wealthy, coming from a party credited by the Supreme Court of Ghana with the ability to “create, plunder and share” public funds with impunity, “said John Boadu.
However, Sammy Gyamfi believes this administration has become a breeding ground for criminals, with President Akufo-Addo protecting corrupt officials instead of prosecuting them.
“What is instructive about all of this is the fact that none of the government officials and nuclear power plant officials responsible for all of these corruption cases that have caused huge financial losses to the state have been held responsible for any of these corrupt acts. “
Mr Gyamfi added that the NPP is petrified by former President Mahama’s call to reject it in 2024.
He said that is because it would allow the nuclear power plant to be held responsible for their “unprecedented thefts and corruption”.
