A former ambassador to Namibia reiterated his position that the national chief imam donating 50,000 yen for the construction of the national cathedral has nothing to do with peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians.

Last Friday, the chief imam contributed 50,000 to the construction of the cathedral, saying he hopes that the money will help the rapid construction of the national edifice.

The chairman of the board of directors of the National Cathedral, Apostle Opoku Onyinah, was excited by the rare decision of the chief imam.

The donation was criticized by many Ghanaians after the finance minister, during the budget review, called on citizens to donate 100 yen per month for the more than $ 100 million project.

He has divided the population, with many saying the government needs to focus on important projects that the cathedral is not a part of.

For his part, the veteran journalist said it was unfortunate that the National Chief Imam was supporting a project to “improve the mass position within the Christian community”.

“If Muslims can’t see it that way and we try to find excuses for what shouldn’t be done, then it’s up to them to decide,” Atta added.

However, the spokesperson for the national chief imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, justified the decision of the donation.
