Aaliyah’s “One In A Million” Debuts at No.10 on the Billboard 200

More than two decades after its initial release in 1996, Aaliyah’s second album One in a million is back on the Billboard charts. The LP produced by Timbaland and Missy Elliott hit streaming services for the first time on August 20, enthralling fans around the world. According to a press release, One in a million Reached # 1 on the catalog and digital card and # 2 on the independent card.

Monday (August 30), One in a million Also debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200, which is the album’s highest ranking ever on the charts. In 1996, the LP debuted at No. 20 on the chart; sale of 40,500 copies in its first week. The album peaked at # 18 and eventually spent 67 weeks on the chart.

Blackground Records, the label that reissued the album, celebrated the feat online.

“For the first time, 25 years after its release, Aaliyah’s One in a million made the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 Chart this week! wrote the label’s official Instagram account in a post. “Thank you to all Aaliyah fans, old and new, for their support.”

One in a million is the first record to be reissued on streaming services via Blackground Records and Empire. Before August 20, only the first effort of the late star, Age is nothing but a number, was available in streaming.

Blackground Records previously announced plans to release Aaliyah’s third and fourth albums, Aaliyah and I care 4 U, Later this year. After One in a million on streaming platforms, Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah’s uncle and co-founder of Blackground Records, thanked fans for waiting “so long” to release his music.

“Thanks to all of his many fans for keeping his music alive,” he wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “I’m sorry it took so long, but when you lose a family member so unexpectedly, it takes time to deal with this type of grief. I decided to release Aaliyah’s music in order to keep her legacy alive.
