The injured youths took steps to express their dissatisfaction with the attitude of the contractor, MyTurn Construction Company Limited and the slow pace of work on the Chuchuliga-Sandema section of the road.
According to the young people who used their motorcycles to block the road, forcing the convoy of Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Atta to stop, the construction work was abandoned for several months only so that they saw a chipper on the road an day at the minister’s visit.
Mr. Hippolite Awennate Alhassan, the chairman of the common interest of Buluk who spoke with the Ghanaian News Agency (GNA) in the municipality before the arrival of Mr. Amoako-Atta and his entourage, said that the people of Buluk were taken for granted from afar. too long.
He said: “The road contract was awarded in 2016 and was due to be completed in February 2019. After cutting the sod for construction, they halted the work.
“Every time the president or a dignitary visits the municipality, then you see the entrepreneur there, when he leaves, then it ends,” he said.
Mr. Alhassan recalled that the last time the entrepreneur was there was during the parliamentary and presidential campaign season of 2020, “Before the elections, MyTurn was on the road, because the second lady was visiting the municipality.
“And after that,” he said, “we didn’t see him again until the Minister was visiting, he decided to come back. So we said no, we can’t be taken for granted all the time. We want the road to be left as it was so that the minister knows that no work is being done, ”the president said.
According to him, the group had sent numerous petitions to the regional minister’s office and intended to send another one, after blocking the road, and if no action was taken, they would take the next step that he said. refused to disclose to the GNA. .
Mr. Stephen Yakubu, Regional Minister of Upper East, accompanied by Mr. Williams Aduum, Director General of the Municipality of Kassena-Nankana, got out of their vehicles when they realized that the road was blocked so that they can talk to young people.
Mr. Yakubu told the group that “we have come with the sector minister to see the problems so that we can resolve them for you. I am in the Region, why didn’t you come and tell me, and because today the Minister is coming here, you are blocking the road.
“You should have come and told me this is the problem you have, so we can tackle the problem.” What you are doing is not good. If you have a problem, I am the regional Minister, come and tell me. So let’s go ahead and do what we came for, ”Yakubu told the young people.
The intervention of the regional minister calmed the president and the members of the group and they cleared the road for the passage of the convoy.
Mr Amoako-Atta was in the municipality to inspect the extent of damage caused by recent flooding on the main road leading to Sandema township, which prevented commuters from entering and leaving Sandema.
