Some areas in the western part of Accra will experience an interruption in water supply from Monday 13 to 17 September.
The management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) explained that their “engineers will replace some defective valves on the main 900mm transmission pipelines, hampering the flow of water and causing serious problems in the distribution lines. “.
“There are also leaks within the supply area, causing GWCL to lose several volumes of water per day and therefore having a serious impact on the volumes available for consumption.
“GWCL engineers will also take advantage of the shutdown to install electromagnetic meters at the Weija processing plant, which will help the company reduce unbilled water,” the company said.
Areas considered to be severely affected include; Weija, Gbawe, Kasoa, Mallam, Sakaman, Odorkor, Dansoman, Mamprobi, Agege, Korle-Gorno, Korle-Bu, Laterbiokorshie, Mataheko, industrial zone north, Kaneshie, Awudome Estates, North Kaneshie, Abeka La Paz, Quarshieman, Anyaa, Santa Maria, Ablekuma, Alhaji, Tabora, Tesano, Dome, Taifa, Achimota and surrounding communities.
The company is urging consumers in Accra, especially those in affected areas of the metropolis, to store enough water for consumption during the shutdown period.
GWCL management has assured the general public “that the equipment, logistics and personnel necessary for the execution of the project have been secured and, therefore, consumers are assured that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the project must be completed. on time.
“The public is also assured that supplies will resume immediately after completion of the repair work. Meanwhile, the company has implemented measures to serve the affected areas so that the impact is not severe. “
The GWCL said that due to the impending disruption, the government’s free Covid-19 water tanks will still be filled with water tankers to allow consumers to pick up for free.
In addition, he said, “essential service providers like hospitals and schools will also be served by tankers.
“Most importantly, consumers should / must store water before the shutdown to reduce the impact of the shutdown.”
The management of the company “deeply regrets the inconvenience that the interruption will cause, but begs consumers to endure the situation since the repair work is aimed at improving services to the public.
