The Deputy Minister of Defense, Hon. Kofi Amankwaa Manu revealed that the Afari military hospital project will soon be ready for use.

According to the minister who is also a member of parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma constituency, the much-talked-about recent health center will be operational within four months.

He mentioned on Kumasi-based Akoma FM that although the project has suffered several setbacks, it will be completed by the end of 2021.

“Several headline speculations that some hospital equipment has been abandoned are just fabrications,” he said.

He added, “Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and hope the health of the Ashanti region improves for good.”

Recently, some media reported that some cylinders and medical equipment were left at the mercy of inclement weather as construction work on the Afari military hospital was halted.

The facility with a capacity of 500 beds was originally intended to be located in Tamale, but was later moved to Accra and then moved to its current site in Afari in the southern Atwima Nwabiagya district of the Ashanti region.

Construction work is still ongoing at the project site. The Afari Military Hospital project started in 2014 and was due for completion in 2016, but was delayed due to the revised contract.

Again, due to the tax exemption and other bureaucracies, the project stalled and work resumed after 2017.
