Vitus Azeem says that transparency and accountability, the tools to fight corruption are lacking in the Akufo-Addo administration.
The former director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative said Ghanaians were tricked into thinking that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo winning the 2016 presidential elections would improve everything in the country, but the situation is different today.
According to him, “we were wrong in thinking that it is incorruptible, that it will not maintain corruption and that when it comes things will be better than before but as I told you, things are worse. than before ”.
As the 2016 elections approached, then-candidate Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) consistently accused President Mahama’s government of being corrupt, pledging to wage a bitter war against the threat. .
But expressing disappointment at the president’s stance on corruption allegations against some of his appointees, Vitus Azeem said Akufo-Addo had failed.
“Every day you just pick up the papers; you listen to the radio and one person or the other and in some cases he comes out himself to say that the person has done nothing wrong. You wouldn’t even wait for the investigative bodies to investigate, you come out and say the person didn’t do anything wrong and you erase him, ”he said.
He also spoke out against the president’s failure to publicize the PDS scandal and reports of Ayawaso West Wuogon’s partial election violence.
“The Ayawaso thing, the president told us that he was not obligated to publish the report, but if you send a bill to parliament about it, don’t you think parliamentarians should know what there is in this report because it will help them in the debate.
Why did you spend the money for a committee of three eminent Ghanaians to sit down and investigate the matter? At least if you don’t want to give us the detailed report come out with your white paper so that yes, that’s what was found … transparency and accountability are the tools to fight corruption and they don’t exist .
