The National Association of Small Scale Miners of Ghana commended the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, for allowing some of its members to join the National Task Force Against Illegal Mining.
The Association asserts that the continued efforts of the minister of the sector and the legitimate policies and interventions of the government are the surest means of reducing the illegal mining threat in the country.
Association Secretary General Godwin Armah said this on behalf of the Association during a forum with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in Dunkwa-on-Offin in the central region.
He said that “for the first time in the country, the Association has been integrated into the national task force against illegal mining. We would like to thank the government and the minister of the sector for this ”.
Mr. Godwin Armah further called on the sector minister to help them with the seedlings to help them in their recovery efforts after mining.
He also called for the ministry’s timely intervention to end the perennial challenge of gold smuggling and the reduction of taxes on their operations to serve as incentives and help curb the canker of gold smuggling.
Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Mr. George Mireku Duker, who spoke on behalf of the sector minister, said the Association was not mandated to establish district working groups, as such movement was illegal.
He, however, called for continued support from the association to help the government streamline the mining sector, especially small-scale mining in Ghana.
