Court approves appointment of wife of TB Joshua as administrator of The SCOAN

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has approved the appointment of Ms Evelyn Joshua as administrator of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).

Judge Tijjani Ringim gave his approval on Thursday while ruling on a petition from some concerned church members, particularly Kola Kareem and Moji Oguntoyinbo, who filed for themselves and on behalf of all The SCOAN members.

In the petition, they urged the court to appoint the church founder’s widow as a member of the trustees, in accordance with the church’s constitution which prescribes a minimum of three trustees for The SCOAN.

The petitioners claimed their petition followed the sudden disappearance of the late SCOAN General Overseer, affectionately known as Prophet TB Joshua, who was also a church administrator.

They argued that the two surviving board members lacked the legal capacity to make the decisions necessary to move the church forward, as the constitution provides for a minimum of three board members.

“In the circumstances, it became imperative that an additional trustee be appointed to fill the vacancy created by the untimely death of the deceased founder,” they said.

The members brought a lawsuit against the incorporated trustees of The SCOAN, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and Ms. Evelyn Joshua.

They were represented in court by Emeka Ekweozor, while Ossazu Owie represented the first and second defendants.

Another lawyer, ON Chukwu, appeared for the CAC.

All of the respondents, through their lawyers, informed the court that they did not oppose the motion filed under section 839 (6) (B) of the Companies and Business Act. Related (CAMA) 2020 (as amended).

In the absence of objections from the respondents, the court wasted no time in granting approval and the decision is expected to provide more clarity on the succession of the officers of the ‘church.
