Attorney for Achimota’s Rastafarian students, George Tetteh Wayoe, is confident he will win the appeal filed by the attorney general and the school.
The Achimota School and the GA have returned to court to challenge the High Court’s decision to admit the two boys, Tyrone Iras Marhguy and Oheneba Kwaku Nkrabea.
In appealing the case, the Achimota School argues that the High Court erred in ruling that the school’s rules and regulations regarding uniformity of appearance are illegal and bear infringement of religious rights.
Supporting this position, the GA department insists that the judge erred in his decision. The GA goes on to say that the decision of the Achimota school does not interfere with the boys’ right to education.
But in an interview with 3FM’s Midday News with Eric Mawuena Egbeta, the student lawyer remains optimistic.
“We are aiming for another big win,” he said.
According to him, nothing has changed significantly in the case and he believes that a higher court will uphold the High Court’s decision.
He says they will go to the room with the attorney general’s department and the school if it becomes necessary, noting that they will take the case to the Supreme Court if necessary.
He explained that the call came as no surprise to him.
He added that the appeal will continue even though one of the boys has left Achimota School for the Ghana International School.
