Ghana Population Census 2021 Figures: New Ghana Census Shows Population Reached 30.8 Million

Ghana’s statistical service reports that the current population is 30.8 million people.

Provisional figures will be released today after the population census which will take place around June of the year.

Based on current figures, Ghana’s population has increased by 6.1 million people since the last population census in 2010 which recorded 24.7 million.

They represent a growth rate of 2.1%, the slowest rate since independence according to the Ghana Statistical Service.

According to government statistician Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, Ghana’s population has quintupled over the past seven decades.

Greater Accra is the most populous area with 5.44 million inhabitants, compared to 4 million recorded in 2010.

Based on provisional results published by the ESG, Ghana has 400,000 more women than men.

The total number of women for Ghana is 15.6 million while the total number of me is 15.2 million.

Based on these figures, the percentage distribution is 50.7% female while the male population is 49.3%.

This means that the region has seen an increase of 1.4 million since the 2010 population census.

The next region with the highest population will be Ashanti, with 5.43 million people compared to 4.8 million at the last count in 2010.

Ghana’s Ahafo region has the smallest population size, just over 500,000 people.

Ghana’s statistical service says the interim results won’t be much different from the final 2021 PHC results.
