It comes after a preliminary investigation by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) revealed that the kidnapping of a pregnant woman in Takoradi was a forgery.

“Based on their preliminary investigations, the NIB suspects that this whole story was false and that the doctor who even examined her revealed that she was not pregnant. This is the immediate information we have. The police are always with her, ”said Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah.

Some angry residents of Takoradi later dismissed reports from the Ghana Police Service that Josephine Panyin Mensah, 28, faked her pregnancy and kidnapping.

They also expressed their displeasure at the arrest of Joséphine’s mother, husband and one other person as accomplices in the alleged self-kidnapping case.

Dressed in red, the victim’s neighbors chanted war songs and cursed various authorities for making such claims.

A second test carried out by the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital confirmed that Joséphine Panyin Mensah, 28, who was reportedly missing, was never pregnant during the period.

The Acting Director General of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service said the results from the Western Regional Hospital confirmed the previous result which had been conducted by doctors at the Axim government hospital .

ACP Kwesi Ofori, in an interview on JoyNews News Office Friday, stressed that a thorough investigation is underway to find out the motives of the suspects who orchestrated the incident.

“The detailed result has been submitted to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department,” he told host Israel Laryea.
