Snyder Cut’s Superman CGI is the opposite of 2017

While the Justice League theatrical cut in 2017 had infamous issues with its CGI on Superman, the visual effects of the Snyder Cut are the opposite.

Superman-centric CGI in that of Zack Snyder Justice League is the complete opposite of the digital embarrassment the Man of Steel endured in the theatrical cut. Recently released on home media, the Snyder Cut contrasts with the 2017 Justice League the theatrical cut continues to be fascinating. Henry Cavill’s Superman is one of the standout elements of the film in this regard, as he more than any other character embodies both the CGI mistakes of the Theatrical Cut and the vast improvements seen later in the Snyder Cut.

Cavill’s mustache Mission: Impossible – Fallout became the bane of the film’s infamous covers after Zack Snyder’s initial departure, with the mustache needing to be digitally erased in post-production. Unfortunately, with the rush of the movie’s last minute redesign, the CGI bottom half of Cavill’s face stood out like a sore thumb when Justice League released in theaters. With nearly every scene of Superman in the movie attributable to the new shots due to the digital smear of Cavill’s face, Justice LeagueThe goofy CGI of remained a punchline for the next several years (Cavill himself was even a part of it), until the Snyder Cut was accompanied by a Superman makeover.

With Superman coming back to life after his death in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the last son of Krypton dons the famous black suit from his comic book resurrection, though Snyder’s reasoning about this lies more in the arc of Kal-El’s character than in re-energizing him as in comics. What’s impressive about this is that, even under Snyder’s original direction, Cavill actually wore Superman’s red and blue costume on set during production on the film. It was apparently a studio warrant, but Snyder was keen for Superman to come back in black as part of his journey, and he found a way around it.

Using specific lighting techniques and tricks, Snyder was able to film Cavill’s current scenes in the film so that the costume could be digitally recolored in post-production. Once the go-ahead for the Snyder cut was given, the change was made, and there isn’t the slightest indication in the finished film that Cavill’s costume was ever a different color. In addition, Snyder also reused some Superman snapshots from Steel man and Batman vs. Superman for the future of the movie Knightmare teases during his resurrection and in Justice Leaguethe epilogue of and, while more easily recognizable to anyone who is able to remember the scenes they are taken from, their inclusion is not jarring enough to be a distraction from the scenes in which they are featured.

The story of the Snyder Cut will remain a legend among superhero movies. While the differences between the theatrical version and the Snyder Cut are huge, there is perhaps no greater irony than the fact that Superman is both the subject of both the biggest CGI misstep of the premiere and the Snyder Cut. a very impressive digital wardrobe swap in Zack Snyder Justice League. As interest in Snyder’s unmade sequels to the film is already spiked after Snyder’s cut of Justice League, and the “Restore the Snyderverse” campaign continues, Superman’s black suit could end up with a double meaning in how it relates to both his comic book and his cinematic resurrections.
