Land Guards to serve up to 15 years in prison – Land Commission

The Land Commission said it will fully implement the 2020 Land Law and its provisions to crack down on criminal activities.

The law provides for a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum sentence of 15 years for those acting as coast guards.

Those who hire their services in Ghana are also breaking the law.

The activities of land guards have become a burden for many people seeking to acquire land, especially in the national capital, Accra.

In the central region, for example, more than 2,000 salt producers say they lost their businesses after being attacked by suspected land guards in Dampase, Gomoa Est district, due to a border dispute.

Property reaching thousands of Ghanaian cedis was damaged in the attack.

Salt producers have threatened to retaliate if authorities do not address their concerns.

Land Commission executive secretary James Dadson said the new law will ensure mental health in Earth space.

According to him, the sponsors of the ground guards will not be outdone either.

“The law has prohibited anyone from engaging in any activity as a land ranger and it is also important to note that if you are going to sponsor a land ranger or if you hire a land ranger to engage in any illegality to prevent someone from accessing their land it is an offense and you will also be punished with imprisonment of at least five years and not more than 15 years.
