The Premier League plans to ‘reward’ clubs with high coronavirus vaccination rates.

The vaccination rate of players has raised concerns, with some having contracted Covid-19.

The Premier League said: “We are looking at whether and how we can best ‘reward’ the most Covid compliant teams / players.”

Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow was hospitalized in July and Chelsea goalkeeper N’Golo Kante tested positive this week.

“Only teams from seven clubs are over 50% fully vaccinated so we have a long way to go,” the Premier League continued in an email sent to top flying clubs last week.

“It is increasingly clear that full vaccination will be the key criteria for government and health authorities, in terms of international travel and potential Covid certification at large-scale events. “

It is understood that protocols against coronaviruses in stadiums and training grounds will continue until the end of the year, but could be relaxed if vaccination rates among players increase.
