The upcoming Channel 4 reboot of the cult video game show GamesMaster has gone and got a presenter, as it was announced today that Scottish comedian, writer, filmmaker and poet Robert Florence will take on the relay as host when it relaunches later this year. Robert will be joined by Frankie Ward and Ty Logan as co-hosts.

Currently comprised of three 60-minute episodes that focus on celebrities battling against each other for the sake of reigning supreme, the new show will air on the E4 YouTube channel before airing on the E4 itself. We still don’t know exactly when we’ll see this modern take on an iconic show that’s been out of the air for 23 years now (!) To let you all know as soon as we have more information.

For those unfamiliar with Robert’s work, he has a long history in gaming media writing for Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, GamesTM, Custom PC and more. He’s also co-created and presented his own cult game shows in the form of the excellent Consolevania and VideoGaiden. Robert also hosted the hilarious The Independent Charles Show during the Xbox 360 era on Inside Xbox.

Having also directed his own horror film, The house of him, and with his latest TV show The Scott currently airing on BBC iPlayer, we think Robert’s crazy and often surreal comedy style is a perfect fit for GamesMaster and, being another Scotsman, his takeover of the reins from previous presenter Dominik Diamond feels right to us. We can’t wait to see what this brand new version of GamesMaster has in store for us when we finally see it later this year.

We’ll also be sitting down with Robert in the very near future to chat with him about his role in the GamesMaster relaunch, so keep an eye out for this interview which will appear on the site soon!
