A 41-year-old shopkeeper was taken to Accra circuit court for allegedly pouring hot water on her 16-year-old daughter whom she accused of stealing GH ¢ 5.00 to buy food without his consent.
Rahinatu Issah accused of causing illegal damage, pleaded not guilty.
The Court presided over by Mrs. Christina Cann allowed Rahinatu to post a bond of 80,000 GH ¢ with three bonds, two to be justified.
The case was adjourned until October 18.
Chief Prosecution Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the plaintiff (name withheld) was a trader residing in Accra Newtown and the victim’s aunt. The victim is the daughter of the accused.
The accused also resides in Newtown with the victim.
Chief Inspector Atimbire said on September 22 that this year the victim woke up around 3 a.m. to take a bath.
The prosecution said the accused warned the victim, however, not to enter his room because the victim stole GH ¢ 5.00 to buy food without his consent.
Chief Inspector Atimbire said the victim then went to sweep their compound.
According to the prosecutor, the accused, who was then preparing hot water for the victim’s siblings, poured some of the hot water on the victim.
The prosecution said the victim suffered severe burns to her back and buttocks.
The victim went to inform her aunt and a report was made to the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Nima and a medical form was issued to the victim for medical treatment.
“In the warning of the accused, she admitted the offense,” said the prosecutor
