Work in progress at the Kumasi International Airport project site
Manhyia North MP Akwasi Konadu said funding for phase II construction works at Kumasi International Airport has been provided by the current government of the New Patriotic Party, NPP.
He rejects claims that funds were available before Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government came to power in 2017.
“We elected Akufo-Addo to power in 2016, funding for this project, in particular, was secured in November 2018, from the UK export finance agency and when this government was in power.”
Asked whether the processes had started before the nuclear power plant came into operation, he replied: “It is not about financial engineering but that the money arrived in 2018 because no details were given. ‘had been settled.
He spoke of the extent of the work accomplished by the Mahama administration before losing power in 2016: “In 2014, $ 24 million was invested and we got aeronautical fires and that’s it.
“So, did it take four full years (2014 – 2018) to secure additional funding for the project? Yes, that’s what someone will have us believe. Taking credit from us isn’t even a big deal either, ”he added.
He mentioned the Eurojet projects of the John Agyekum Kufuor era which he said had been lying fallow since 2008 and funds embezzled before the creation of the Afari military hospital.
The contractors of the airport project recently announced during a visit by the president to the site that it would be completed in June 2022.
