Four of the six children, who went swimming in the sea on Saturday at British Komenda in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem municipality of the central region, have drowned.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kojo Antwi Tabi, Commander of the Central Regional Police, confirmed the incident to the media when he visited the scene and showed compassion to the families of the deceased.

He said that on Saturday October 2, at around 11 a.m., Mr. Joseph Kojo Williams, MP for Amoto constituency in Komenda, accompanied by Mr. Isaac Jojo Ackon Donkor, former MP for Sesam constituency, reported the incident to the police.
Police said two of the children were rescued and sent to hospital where they were treated and released, but two bodies, a man and a woman, washed up on the shore while two others were missing.
The bodies of the two, identified as Enock Baffoe, 13, and Gloria Mpanyin, 15, have since been deposited in the morgue at Cape Coast University Hospital.
The regional commander said there was a joint patrol team of police and fishermen, who occasionally patrolled the beach and said the children could have sneaked onto the beach on the blind side of the patrol team. .
He assured that the police would intensify their collaboration with the chief fisherman and other community leaders to ensure a vigorous patrol on the beaches to contain such incidents.
DCOP Tabi expressed concern over the recent drowning incident in the area and advised parents to be extremely vigilant in monitoring their children, especially during the rainy season when sea levels are high.
He also called for intensified and continuing education for residents of coastal communities.
Kwodwo Mbea II, chief fisherman of British Komenda, expressed his shock and said the area where the children drowned was a sacred place, where sacrifices were sometimes offered, adding that he did not expect this to happen. let the children go swimming there.
