Resident Evil Village dazzled horror fans around the world earlier this year, but the classic game franchise is not yet over with 2021. However, with the release of the exclusive Oculus Quest 2 version of Resident Evil 4 VR released in October, censorship concerns have now arisen regarding the original dialogue and text of the game.
Now over 15 years old, Resident Evil 4 has been ported to many other consoles since its original release. These versions generally didn’t see any real changes to the original game except for the texture and model tweaks and the occasional unique control schemes, like when Resident Evil 4 came to the Wii. However, this latest information indicates that some of the classic lines of the game have now been changed or removed.
Multiple sources have now reported that Resident Evil 4The dialogue has been modified according to requests from Facebook, the producer of the Oculus Quest headsets. According to the claims, Capcom accepted the requests and the developer of the VR version, Armature Studios, made them accordingly. While gratuitous violence and gore resident Evil is known to be apparently intact, several sexual or flirtatious comments have been cut.
The report claims that key moments like lead character Leon S. Kennedy flirting with Hunnigan on video chat, commenting on his age, or Luis’s comments about Ashley Graham’s figure have been deleted. Ashley also no longer hits Leon at the end of the game, cutting straight to their conversation regarding the mysterious Ada. According to the report, these deletions were not due to issues with the VR format, but only because of their content.
While the new arrivals Resident Evil 4 are unlikely to notice any conversation anomalies based on the shared clippings, they will likely remain visible to fans of the original version. The development and writing of the game has changed a bit since Resident Evil 4original release from in 2005, with more attention given to all of its potential audience as more female players are actively playing than before, which is probably why Facebook felt the need to ask for the changes.
Of course, longtime fans may be quick to point out that Resident Evil 4, like the entries that came before it, included plenty of cheesy lines and crass or rude comments made by antagonists and protagonists, both of a sexual and non-sexual nature. While the recent resident Evil the remakes removed many of these elements, with fans hoping that Resident Evil 4 would be converted for VR and if not left untouched will be dropped by this information. Only time will tell if the inevitable Resident Evil 4 remake knows the same fate.
Resident Evil 4 VR is slated for release on October 21 exclusively for Oculus Quest 2 VR headsets.
