South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has written to the Chief Justice to demand full disclosure of the results of an investigation into the illegal admission of more than 200 students to the Ghana School of Law last year.
MP says it was brought to his attention that an inquiry committee has been set up by the General Legal Council (GLC), chaired by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah to investigate the case .
The committee was tasked with investigating the circumstances that led to the illegal admission.
Admission to the only school offering the professional law program remains controversial as thousands of students fail the entrance exam every year. This gave rise to calls for investigation.
This year, only 790 of the more than 2,000 students who wrote the exam were admitted to the Ghana School of Law.
SirDafeamekpor, in the letter to the Council, said that some students who took the exam last year and should not have been admitted nonetheless were.
The MP said he knew the outgoing president of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Anthony Forson Jnr, chaired the committee to investigate the case.
The committee reportedly interviewed and received responses from the acting principal of the school, the registrar and the deputy registrar.
The MP wants all these documents to be made available to him, arguing that Ghana’s constitution and the Right to Information Act allow him access to these documents.
He wants these documents to be made available to him in seven days.
