One of three witch doctors on trial for the death of Edward Quartey Papafio, a 64-year-old retired biochemist in Adeiso in the Eastern region, has died.
The RNG has learned that Christian Awoe Gameli, aka Power One, 40, who was ill, died while in legal custody.
Gamali is said to have died in police cells about two weeks ago.
Gameli, Famous Adukonu, alias Scorpion, 37, and Yaw Azamate, 27, are charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, namely murder.
The three saw their means preserved during their appearance before the Court chaired by Mrs. Rosemond Dodua Agyiri.
Meanwhile, an arrest warrant issued for the arrest of a fugitive Michael Ahiavinye and Buzanga remains in effect.
The case of the prosecution led by Detective Inspector Lawrence Anani is that the complainant is Reverend Comfort Ruth Quartey-Papafio, who resides in Takoradi in the Western region.
Gameli, Adukonu and Azamete are said to operate their businesses in Adu-Kojo and Kwasi-Nyarko, all of Maame Dede’s suburbs in the eastern region.
The prosecution said that on January 17 of this year, the complainant reported the disappearance of her husband, Mr. Quartey Papafio, from his residence in Kasoa on January 15 of this year, at around 7:33 a.m.
He said that upon receiving the complaint, the police gathered information that the deceased was last seen at the Gameli Shrine on the outskirts of Adu Kojo, which led to the arrest. of Gameli and Adukonu on April 21 of last year.
According to the prosecution, a search carried out at the Gameli shrine uncovered two shotguns, a single barrel shotgun and 11 packets of cartridges.
Seven other pieces of cartridges were found in his bedroom while two shovels were also found hidden behind his house.
The prosecution said during questioning that Gameli and Adukonu admitted to shooting the deceased with a pump pistol on January 15 this year and buried the corpse at the shrine.
He said that on April 29 of last year, the two men led police to the Power One Herbal / Spiritual Center where police identified the grave of the deceased in a makeshift cemetery behind Gameli’s house.
The prosecution said the crime scene was secured and an exhumation order had been obtained from the court for this purpose.
The prosecution said on April 30 last year, a pathologist along with senior officers from the CID headquarters, staff from the crime scene management team, the forensic science laboratory, the drone operation and the operational team of the headquarters / CID with Gameli and Adukonu, exhumed the body of the deceased.
He said when the grave was dug, the decomposed body of Quartey-Papafio was removed and the police also discovered that the grave of the deceased was among other places in the cemetery of Gameli, which had been well fenced.
The prosecution said investigations revealed that on December 29, 2019, Gameli, Adukonu and Azamete conspired to kill Papafio, thus luring him with the help of a certain Buzanga, also a traditional priest in Kasoa.
He said that prior to Papafio’s murder, Gameli intentionally made a false statement to him (Papafio) and managed to collect 10,650Gh ¢ from him through mobile money under the pretext of staving 400,000.00Gh ¢ for him. help boost your business.
The prosecution said Papafio was invited to the shrine on January 15 last year, for a cleansing, and in the process, Adukonu shot him with Gameli’s gun.
He said that Adukonu then drained a certain amount of Papafio’s blood into a plastic gallon and hid it at the shrine while Gameli took possession of Papafio’s cell phones and then buried him with help Azamate and Michael who were on the run.
The prosecution said Gameli and Adukonu allegedly confessed to police that the blood in the gallon was a mixture of that of Papafio and another victim who was also buried among other bodies at the cemetery.
He said the gallon of blood and the body were then taken to the police morgue for examination.
The prosecution said the pathologist said Papafio’s cause of death was hemorrhagic shock, traumatic amputation and severe unnatural chest pain.
Gameli and Adukonu are scheduled to appear in court on October 12.
