The confirmation of the president’s candidate for the post of head of the municipal executive (MCE) for Ketu South has been delayed by almost two hours.

The delay was caused by the first, last-minute dismissal of all former government members appointed to the assembly, which affected Samuel Doe Haligah, who was also the presiding member and the 39 elected members insisted on following the due process.

The 18 government appointees were notified of their dismissal after showing up on Thursday morning in anticipation of their participation in the confirmation exercise scheduled for 10 a.m.

When everything was ready for the start of the exercise a few minutes after 11:00 a.m., drama ensued until it was resolved around 12:00 p.m.

The announcement by Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim, director of municipal coordination to members of a swearing-in of the new members of the Assembly government did not please the members.

Members, among others, argued that they had not been informed of the decision to revoke the appointments of previously appointees and that the meeting would continue without a member chairing it.

Members took a break after which they returned with a recommendation that a member be appointed to chair the exercise.

Two names, Prosper Atoklo and Moses Xorse Kordorwu, were appointed and the latter was given the green light to be the relinquishing prime minister at the start of the fiscal year.

At the end of the ballots and the counting of the votes around 12:50, Maxwell Koffie Lugudor was confirmed as MCE of the zone with 49 Yes votes, representing 86%. There were 8 “NO” votes.
