Matrix Resurrections bring Keanu Reeves back as Neo, but the Wachowskis have already mentioned the possibility of focusing on entirely different characters.

That said, fans of the series are unlikely to be excited if the next entry focused entirely on these Matrix characters on Neo and Trinity either.
With Reeves’ cultural predominance greatly boosted by the John wick movies and the development of the MCU bringing big returns to franchise films in their prime, now is a time that favors continuations over spinoffs. This is even truer than in the early 2000s, when the Wachowskis for the first time envisioned the possible future of The matrix, although it is interesting to wonder where the series could have gone with Niobe and The Kid.
