The opposition NDC is expected to hold elections in early 2019 to fill the vacant flag-bearer position ahead of Ghana's presidential and legislative elections in 2020. Some 13 aspirants are arguing with more than 300,000 delegates across the country votes before the presidential elections.

Hundreds of northern delegates have declared their willingness to vote overwhelmingly for Goosie Tanoh to be the next presidential candidate for the NDC party.
