Bernard Avle lists 10 problems that Ghana must tackle to improve its lives

Bernard Koku Avle, host of the Citi Breakfast Show, proposed a strategic structure that, once put in place by the country's leaders, will allow the ordinary Ghanaian not to have to endure the myriad of problems that make his life unbearable.

In what he described as "the setting for a new national speech," Mr. Avle, who is also the journalist of the year 2017, said the safest way for Ghana to make significant progress in development is to move away from political divisions and focus on these top 10 agenda.

Avle made these proposals at a first public conference on "Rethinking the National Conversation" at the Swiss Spirit Hotel & Alisa Hotel on Tuesday night.

The proposals included the areas of transport, education, health and the deeply rooted corruption that continues to affect the country.

Public transport: Why should a civilized country allow the horrible "trotro" system to continue? Where is the BRT?

Public health: Why are we spending billions of dollars in infrastructure while many of them have been abandoned, making health care always precarious for the majority of the population?

Quality of education: Whether the free SHS is the ultimate solution or just the starting point of our conversation about the state of education in the country. More than a third of our elementary schools do not have toilets.
Growing urbanization and its challenges: high rent and lack of housing, resulting in an increasing rate of crime and social vices. The growing wave of defilement in our schools and communities.

Electricity sector: We do not even know if Dumsor is back or not.

Open defecation and poor sanitation: Where are we in the quest to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa?

The cancer of corruption: That it is small or large, as evidenced by exaggerated contracts and deliberate tactics aimed at preventing citizens from accessing the legitimate services of the state. And even, the difficulties to get pbadports, TINs and other things.

We must also find a space to discuss again our constitutional arrangement and set the agenda for a frank and balanced conversation about our identity.
We must deliberately seek to highlight the elements that unite us and to avoid letting ourselves go to activities that divide us as a nation.

Rethinking the national conversation

The event, which was jointly organized by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), brought together hard-working citizens to make Ghana a better place to live.

Mr. Avle has received consistent praise for his work at the Citi Breakfast Show and has revealed himself to be a key influencer of public opinion.

He has been at the forefront of critical campaigns against illegal small-scale mining and the reopening of the University of Ghana Medical Center, which was a replacement for the general challenges of the abandoned health projects.
