LEICESTER, England: Leicester City's Nampalys Mendy scored the decisive goal by beating Southampton 6-5 on penalties after a 0-0 draw on Tuesday (27 November) to reserve a quarterfinal of the World Cup. League with the Manchester City Holder.

Southampton had a goal from Steven Davis denied by the VAR late in the second half and hit the crossbar through Manolo Gabbiadini in stoppage time, the match ending directly in a penalty.

After ten consecutive penalties, Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward saved Gabbiadini's weak effort and Mendy led the winner.

The fourth round match was originally scheduled for last month, but was postponed following the death of Leicester President, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, in a helicopter crash.

Southampton striker Michael Obafemi, 18, had his first real chance when he opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, but it's his second-half failure that runs the risk of playing in his head a little bit longer.

Nathan Redmond's efforts descended from the crossbar and fell to Obafemi's feet, but he managed one way or another to push further.

Southampton thought they had taken the lead eight minutes before the end of the match, as Redmond made his way into the box before Davis came home.

The video badistant referee however qualified his effort for a handball against Redmond after the ball hit the Southampton wingman's arm while he was fighting in the area.

Gabbiadini hits the bar with a plummeting free-kick, curling, in stoppage time before Southampton's luck deserts them further in the shootout.

Leicester will be home to the city in the last eight.
