The mayor of Somerville, Mbadachusetts, will be out of sight and off the office for the next few weeks due to a serious case of shingles.
According to officials, Democratic mayor Joseph Curtatone has recently been hospitalized for the shingles virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. Although the disease rarely puts one's life at risk, Curtatone's office says that he has a serious case that affects his inner ear and his facial nerves.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predict that nearly one in three people will develop shingles at some point, and that anyone who has cured chickenpox can still develop the disease.
Curtatone keeps in touch with his staff and his office says that he plans to work remotely in the coming days after his convalescence.
