10 fishing ports to come – Oppong Nkrumah reveals

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the government plans to build 10 fishing ports and landing sites.

According to him, the Cabinet has already approved the commercial and financial agreement relating to projects, which is pending approval by Parliament.

He made this revelation on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at a press conference held every two weeks in Accra.

Mr. Nkrumah noted that "a total of $ 235 million was allocated to these projects located in selected areas".

"The government's vision of transforming the fishing industry in Ghana is clearly spelled out in the 2016 Nuclear Power Plant Manifesto under Agriculture and Rural Development on pages 18 and 19. It includes a key pillar that reads:" The construction program landing and storage sites, "he said.

The project is expected to boost the fisheries sector, which contributes about 3 percent of Ghana's GDP.

Fishing harbors and landing sites will be located in the following areas:

Teshie – Greater Accra Region

Axim – West Region

Dixcove – Western Region

Elmina – Central Region

Winneba – Central Region

Mumford – Central Region

Senya-Bereku – Central Region

Fetteh-Gomah – Central Region

Moree – Central Region

Keta – Volta Region
