Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed
Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed, who also serves as President of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), has taken a number of measures and measures to ensure the successful implementation of the roadmap on Dagbon chieftaincy affairs by the committee of the eminent Chiefs.
REGSEC had a very fruitful engagement with the ulema, leaders of religious organizations in the region, on their role in preaching and promoting peace before, during and after the events.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and two prominent leaders have finally resolved the dispute over the dagbon chieftaincy, according to which the two royal gates in conflict – Abudu and Andani – were going to Manhyia Palace in Kumasi for more than a decade to mediation and settlement.
The funeral rites, which are expected to last two weeks, will begin on December 14 and end on December 28, 2018, after which the Abudu will leave the Gbewa Palace peacefully.
The Andanis will also visit the Gbewa Palace to hold the funeral ceremonies of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani from January 4 to 18, 2019.
REGSEC invited all parties involved in the roadmap (Andanis and Abudus), as well as the general public, to see the announcement of the dates of the funeral and the subsequent consecration of a new Yaa Naa as a unique opportunity to restore lasting peace in Dagbon so that it regains its legitimate place as a bastion of tradition and culture.
"We call for restraint, caution and circumspection in declarations and actions at this crucial moment. Everyone must act in such a way as to maintain the existing peace and to improve it so that Dagbon can restore his pride. REGSEC is calling on everyone to take the necessary steps to ensure peace so that these events go smoothly, "said the minister.
The regional minister said the government is committed to achieving lasting peace and stability in Dagbon to foster growth, development and investment, with no significant development taking place without peace.
He strongly indicated that security agencies are very alert and willing to deal decisively with any person or group that will attempt to create confusion about the implementation of the road map, and that any person or group of that type will have to book when it undertakes any act likely to undermine the peace process.
Saeed said the northern region cherished peace and its people wanted to improve their living conditions and development, adding that the region had suffered enough from peace and security and its impact on development.
"No one or group will be able to review the progress of the road map and we must all cooperate to make the march towards peace a success," he added.
The minister urged everyone to remain vigilant during this period and report any suspicious moves to security agencies so that no one could compromise the peace.
