The General Legal Counsel (GLC) on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit filed against secret investigative journalist Ance Aremeyaw Anas, filed by Assin Central MPP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The GLC declined jurisdiction in a malpractice complaint against Anas.
In July 2018, the MP dragged Anas in front of the GLC, claiming that Anas had been misbehaving professionally as a lawyer, in a manner that bordered on "moral turpitude".
A letter of complaint dated July 5, 2018, addressed to the Chair of the Discipline Committee of the General Legal Council, requested that disciplinary action be taken against Anas as a lawyer.
According to the member, Anas and a Crown Attorney, Ellen Kwawukume, would have tried to have a fraud case dismissed.
GLC decision
Yesterday, the GLC declined jurisdiction on the grounds that Anas was not a lawyer at the time the incident alleged occurred.
He further ordered the MP to report Anas to the police, who believed that he was corrupt.
According to the GLC, Anas was neither the police nor the Attorney General to end a lawsuit.
Campaign
The noisy MP ran a campaign against Anas.
He insists that Anas's style of trapping people should not be tolerated.
Anas, meanwhile, dragged Mr. Agyapong to court for having defamed him and asks the High Court to award aggravated damages in the amount of 25 million GH ¢ resulting from defamatory documents published by the deputy.
A sports journalist, Listowell Yesu Bukarson, has been given the legal mandate to replace Anas.
In another breath, Ms. Kwawukume, who is currently retired, also sued the MP for 25 million GH ¢ for defamation.
